Geometry Working Group

Thursday, July 12

Annie Fetter took the geometry group into the computer lab and introduced them to the soon-to-be-released version 4.0 of Geometers Sketchpad. Annie provided access to some of the materials that she will be presenting week at an advanced Sketchpad class at Key Curriculum Press, Berkeley, California.

Oooooohs and aaaahs were heard throughout the working group.

Some of the new features introduced to the group included the ability have a single document with multiple pages (with tabs much like Excel; presentations that need more than one sketch just got a whole lot easier), merging/separating of points and objects, action s buttons took a giant leap forward, backwards and in every other direction!! Parametric Color lets you assign distance from a point to a specific color, creating great circle or ellipse sketches.

Tim and Philip made some Sketchpad prototypes for the center of mass project.

Note: David Evans and Sue Hannon have transferred to other working groups closer to their new teaching situations.
