Reasoning from Data and Chance Summary

Monday - Friday, June 29 - July 3, 2009

Members of the Working with Data and Chance group spent the week exploring the dynamic software package, Fathom™. As participants were at various levels of comfort with the software, Monday and Tuesday were spent working through exploratory activities in the Learning Guide provided with the software.

A variety of data sets from several websites were explored using Fathom including data from the U.S. Army Anthropometry Survey (ANSUR). These files were shared [username/password required]:

On Thursday demonstration activities for the TI-Nspire™ were shared with the group. shared data activities that he developed for the TI-Nspire™.

On Friday participants discussed the article "Introductory Statistics: A Ptolemaic Curriculum?" and worked through an activity using simulation and inference. At the end of the day they developed a list of project ideas and were given an article which summarized a curriculum framework for statistics education.
