Math Amnesia Blog: Rx for Math Amnesia
Strategies to Cure the "I've Never Learned That Before" Blues

Can you cure math amnesia? The purpose of our blog is to give some ideas to help cure math amnesia in students. We came up with the idea after reading the book Make It Stick by Peter Brown and realizing the links to our classrooms.

Visit our Rx for Math Amnesia blog.

What we do:
We'll provide a cohesive set of blog posts so that you never have to hear, "We've never learned that before" again. Based on research in cognitive science and memory, we have identified several options that we have been able to implement in our classrooms. We will share those and provide an entry point to allow you to try it out in class tomorrow.
How we do it:
Our prescription for math amnesia includes frequent low-stakes quizzes, spacing practice and interleaving skills throughout the year. We will discuss strategies that have worked in Jane's middle school classroom as well as Josie's high school classroom and point you to some on-line resources that we have been able to use to supplement our efforts in class.
