Japanese Lesson StudyMonday, July 9On our first day we were introduced to our fellow group members and to the Japanese practice of lesson study. We each introduced ourselves and talked a bit about why we had chosen to be in the lesson study group. Jane Gorman (our facilitator) gave us an overview of some of the basic ideas underlying the Japanese practice of lesson study. We talked about some things we might choose to do in the next three weeks, culminating in putting together a lesson to teach to some local high school students. Finally, we watched a video which showed the process of lesson study in a Japanese fifth grade class, from early planning through feedback and revision. |
