Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability Summary

Thursday, July 3, 2003

We discussed ideas for our projects. One idea was to do a unit on the least squares regression line and how it is a function of minimizing sums of squares and the related graph of the parabola associated with the areas of the sum of the squares being minimized. Another was to write activities for the 2003 AP free response questions using Fathom. Linear transformations on statistics (mean, standard deviation, etc.) was another. And yet another was a Fathom unit on probability simulations.

After this sharing and brainstorming session Dave K. shared a couple of commercially available units on algebra and calculus using Geometer's Sketchpad .

Finally, we went to the computer lab where we spent the rest of the time working on our projects or learning more about Fathom.
