Exploring Discrete Mathematics Summary

Monday - Friday, July 18 - 22, 2011

The two groups continued creating their products on Euler circuits and Mastermind, respectively. Producing maps of New York City and Callao took more effort than expected, and Dan's segment on problem solving may be viable on its own. The Ning appeal for Mastermind strategies yielded a response that was integrated into the project; no one recognized the contributor -- the power of large networks. On Tuesday, each group posted their drafts on Google Docs with the request that everyone read and comment on both projects before the Thursday meeting. While there were several problems with graphics and format integrity, the comment features of Google Docs was very helpful. After a harried Thursday of editing, finishing drafts of stray sections, and admitting that some material would not progress beyond "examples of possible extensions" for this initial milepost, files were dutifully submitted at 3pm. On Friday, all teacher / authors helped explain their work to the full SSTP, which received the presentation warmly.
