Visualizing Functions SummaryMonday - Friday, July 16 - 20, 2012The Functions Working Group met four times this week and completed our work on the Functions Matrix, and prepared our final presentation. The matrix is designed to map the content related to functions onto the Mathematical Practices. The interface to the matrix will allow the user to choose middle school or high school standards, and then to choose which of the Mathematical Practices which are to be displayed. Once those are chosen, the interface will return a list of all the tasks and activities which are in the matrix. Opening one of the items on the list will show an activity or task, along with a teacher commentary and solutions. Most importantly, each mathematical practice which is demonstrated will be noted by number and explanation at that point. Eventually the matrix will be placed on a website; for now we have it hosted on a temporary webserver. We will need to continue to polish up the individual activities, and to populate the matrix as much as possible. While it will be impossible to have all entries in the matrix filled in with a task or project, the entries that are present will contain explicit information about which Mathematical Practice is being demonstrated. |
