Ohio Math Academy Project - Cincinnati, OH: Dates: February 12 - 13, 2004; Presenters: Steve Phelps; Description: A workshop designed for Ohio's teachers, helping teachers to plan lessons and assessments in line with the Ohio Model Math Curriculum.
Inversion and Inversive Geometry on the TI-92 Plus/Voyage 200 - New Orleans, LA: Dates: March 12-14, 2004; Presenters: Steve Phelps; Description: This is a session at the Teachers Teaching with Technology International Conference. Participants will explore the little used F5:6:INVERSE command in Cabri Geometry. Participants will learn about the properties of inversive geometry, explore congruent shapes, construct inversive images, and see practical applications of inversion.
Teaching Geometry in the Middle Schools University of Cincinnati: Dates: Spring 2004; Presenters: Steve Phelps; Description: This quarter-long course for pre-service middle grade teachers will focus on methods, strategies, and tools used for effectively teaching geometry in middle grades. Students will use these to plan instruction in line with the NCTM Standards and Ohio Mathematics Content Standards.

REU - NSF Grant - University of North Carolina at Asheville: Date: Summer, 2007; Presenters: Nancy Ruppert, eight undergraduate math majors from seven liberal arts colleges in the Southeast, and four mathematics faculty from UNCA; Description: Undergraduates participated in an eight week REU working with mathematics faculty from UNCA. Nancy wrote the evaluation piece to the REU and have been collecting data on students and faculty surveys and interviews all summer.
Probability, Polynomials, and CAS - USACAS 4th Annual Conference, Chicago, IL: Date: June 16-17, 2007; Speaker: Steve Phelps; Description: Participants will explore some simple probability game, and will use polynomial multiplication and CAS to model these games.
The Algebra Academy - University of North Carolina at Asheville: Date: July, 2007; Presenters: Nancy Ruppert; Ruafika Cobb, 8th grade math teacher; and four African-American middle school students; Description: Ruafika and Nancy worked together in the spring. Ruafika is the brainchild behind conducting an Algebra Academy for African American girls. She and Nancy worked with them on several Saturdays in the spring, and they conducted hands-on math for two days at UNCA. They plan on continuing the project this fall and will be presenting it at the National Middle School Association conference in November (2007).

Hands On Mathematics - Puget Sound Educational Support District, WA: Date: Ongoing; Presenter: ParaEducators and Elementary Classroom Teachers; Description: Kris Koch teaches workshops that educate classroom parapros and classroom teachers about the mathematical methods of John Van De Walle. Manipulative use and guided constructivism are core concepts. Kris also includes ideas from the Everyday Mathematics Program. Kris continues to work at NWMI, a weeklong workshop hosted at the University of Washington. NWMI was originally patterned on the ideas of PCMI and continues to be led by Dr. James King.

Topics include radicals, binomial expansion, exponential and trigonometric functions.
Duke Energy Award: Date: February, 2009; Awardee: Gloria Brown Brooks; Description: Gloria won the Duke Energy Award for travel to the NCSM and NCTM conferences in Washington, DC.
Working with teachers from Bangladesh - Kingston, Ontario, Canada: Date: March, 2009; Presenter: Beverly Farahani; Description: Farahani had the opportunity to work with teachers, visiting Canada, from Bangladesh. Over the course of a few days, the group focussed on using the TI 84+, CBLs, CBRs and TI-Nspire CAS.
PD for District Coaches - Seattle School District, Seattle, WA: Date: 29 May, 2009; Description: Roni Stein facilitated a cultural competence (CC) training for all of the district and building content and mentor coaches (K-12 all content areas). Roni first presented this with a mathematics twist in the Seattle area at the 2007 NW Math Conference. Joyce then invited her to present again to the NWMI group this past fall where one of SPS' mentor coaches was present. This coach shared her experience with the CC team and suggested that it would be great for all the coaching staff...and it was. Roni does a great job connecting the 5 dimensions of culture (Hofstede) to teachers' work with students, parents, teachers, and the community. Roni's connection to PCMI is indirectly through Joyce Frost and Art Mabbott but more directly through her husband, Bob Stein.

AP Statistics Development Committee: Date: July 1, 2009 and forward; Participant: John Mahoney; Description: John has been appointed to the position of College Board Advisor to the AP Statistics Development Committee. This seven-member committee develops the Course Description and plays a critical role in developing the exam. The CBA has additional responsibilities relating to the AP Statistics site on AP Central and other College Board activities.

Ignite - California Mathematics Council: Date: December 4, 2010; Presenter: Gloria Brown Brooks, Phil Daro, Tim Erikson, Scott Ferand, Linda Gojak, Steve Leinwand, Gretchen Mueller, Micheal Serra; Description: Gloria gave a five minute-long "Ignite!" talk, on a math topic she is passionate about; and also delivered the presentation "Creating a Math Circle to Foster Equity in the English Language Learner Classroom," which dealt with problem solving and with getting teachers together to dissect word problems and find ways to better relate their use with their ELL students.
California Math Project - Common Core Standards Committee: Date: December 15, 2010 through present; Members: Colleagues from universities, colleges and schools; Description: The mission of the California Mathematics Project (CMP) is to develop and enhance K-12 teachers' content knowledge and instructional strategies aligned with the California State Board of Education-adopted California Mathematics Content Standards and Framework. He made contacts with several leaders in international math education.

Tables, graphs, symbols, words, and physi- cal models will all be used in this session that demonstrates ways to encourage connections among representations and deeper understanding about what functions are.
Ours Is to Reason Why When We Invert and Multiply: Date: October 16-18, 2013; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Baltimore, Maryland; Speaker: Fred Dillon; Description: Starting with pictorial representations and continuing with dif- ferent operational strategies, we will build student comprehen- sion of what it means to divide with fractions. We will focus on topics in the history of algebra: ancient methods of solving linear and quadratic problems, the origins of "algebra," and the revolutionary development of symbolic notation.
Generalizing Rules for Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of 10: Date: November 19-21, 2014; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Houston, Texas; Speaker: Greta Anderson; Description: Help your students understand multiplying and divid- ing with powers of 10. First, discover an exploration that pushes your students to generalize rules for multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 (and that takes only two min- utes a day!). Then, work with base-ten blocks to highlight the "why" for students in multiplying and dividing values by 10.
Using Good Tasks: Date: November 19-21, 2014; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Houston, Texas; Speaker: Fred Dillon; Description: What tasks can help my students learn about statistics and sampling, or about connections between functions and geometry? Together, we will work two problems that answer these questions and that model selecting goals, choosing good tasks, planning for discourse, thinking about assessment, having multiple entry points, and using proper tools.
The Cure for the Common Core: Date: November 19-21, 2014; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Houston, Texas; Speaker: Kate Nowak and Patrick Callahan; Description: Over the past year, a small group of teachers and curricu- lum developers from Illustrative Mathematics, High Tech High, and Mathalicious have teamed up to create high school course plans and unit blueprints. This resource details a pathway for translating the Common Core into a sequence of classroom experiences.

Teacher Leader Collaborative (TLC): Date: October 2014 - May 2015; Location: San Diego Unified School District; Speaker: Trang Vu; Description: I worked with several other MfA SD teachers (Dr. Ovie Soto, Gen Esmende, and Fred Griesbach) to organize a professional development series, one day each month, to deepen our understanding of mathematics and learn ways to implement the Common Core Practice Standards for Mathematics. We invited speakers to present important math topics, implemented the activities in our classrooms, and shared student work. The speakers we invited included professors from UCSD (Dr. Jeff Rabin, Dr. Laura Stevens, Dr. Guershon Harel) and PCMI presenters (Bowen Kerins, Dr. Darryl Yong, Brian Shay).
NCTM Educational Materials Committee: Date: May 2015 through April 2018; Location: Reston, Virginia; Speaker: Craig Russell; Description: Craig is serving a 3-year appointment as a reviewer of unsolicited manuscripts and current publications of NCTM. He also writes proposals for new publications.
Lesson Study for the Rest of Us: Date: May 8, 2015; Location: Wisconsin Mathematic Council 2015 Annual Conference; Speaker: David Berger; Description: Previously it has been difficult for teachers in small departments to participate in lesson studies, but technology removes collaboration barriers. I presented a model that allows any teacher to participate in a lesson study by using readily available tools.
Best Practices Night: Date: Summer, 2015; Location: AP Statistics Reading in Kansas City; Speaker: Donna Young; Description: Donna gave a presentation about binomial probability related to concepts discovered during morning math at PCMI. This presentation encouraged other teachers to use binomial multiplication to develop the formula for determining binomial probability instead of just telling the kids the formula and having them memorize it.
Steering Committee for NSF grant funding for ICME: Date: July 2015 through November 2016; Location: various; Speaker: Craig Russell; Description: Craig helped to develop screening crietria, record results, set up conference calls, reviewed applicants, coordinated the focus group on "Special Needs and Gifted Students" by preparing guiding questions, helping at ICME, and writing summary report.
Fostering a Growth Mindset in the Math Classroom: Date: November, 2015; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Speaker: Jennifer Chen Fein (submitter), Rachel Gordon (another math teacher at Jennifer's school), Fred Dillon (referrer); Description: Jennifer was able to present a session at an NCTM Regional conference due to the connections she had made at PCMI, including but not limited to, Fred Dillon and Monica Tienda. It was an experience that helped her not only share her classroom practices with a larger audience but also helped her reflect on her own teaching. She met other educators and got to see how her own teaching practices lined up with others in the country, which has continued to shape her practice now. In addition to speaking at this conference, Fred also helped her publish an article in MTMS (March 2015) in the Math for Real section.
Right Triangles and Trigonometry: Constructing the Unit Circle: Date: November 11-13, 2015; Location: NCTM Regional Conference & Exposition, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Speaker: Jake Leibold and David Berger; Description: Help your students understand the unit circle, reference angles and radians. You will experience the use of manipulatives to help students understand key trigonometric concepts through construction of the unit circle using special right triangles. Multiple representations and connections among topics will be highlighted. This lesson was developed by the Lesson Study group at PCMI 2014.

Chapter: Supporting Productive Struggle in Learning Mathematics – What, Why, and How?: Date: 2015 - 2017; Hosts: Rina Viramontes; Description: Dr. Blake Peterson wrote a chapter which Rina co-authored called "Supporting Productive Struggle in Learning Mathematics What, Why, and How?". The chapter is in a book that was just published by NCTM called Enhancing Classroom Practice.

The idea for this course was actually generated at PCMI 2015 in collaboration with other TLP participants.

It is a significant step in providing students with standards-based, problem-based curriculum. Best practices he explored as part of the TLP have left their fingerprints in the curriculum in many ways. The curriculum is available for free through CCBY licensing.

This was a full-day inservice for Lexington Public School teachers by Lexington Public School teachers. It is a celebration and sharing of good work done at the classroom, school and district level.

Appointment: K-5 Mathematics Department Head: Date: 2016 - 2017; Location: Lexington Public Schools, Lexington, Massachusetts; Appointee: Linda M Menkis; Description: Linda was appointed the K-5 Mathematics Department Head in the Lexington Public Schools in the 2016-17 school year. She attributes some of her motivation and achievement in successfully being appointed to this new leadership role to her experience at PCMI. The summer spent among leaders at every level in the field of mathematics was pivotal in her growth as an educator of young children. Her interaction with great mathematical thinking, teaching and leadership has stayed with her. PCMI is part of who she is as a professional - it was an invaluable experience that she is incredibly grateful to have had.

Students who approach every topic as a series of steps to memorize are not learning math. Tina and Ashli presented a workshop to explore how to replace some popular tricks with teaching for understanding.

Right Triangles and Trigonometry: Constructing the Unit Circle: Date: May 5, 2017; Location: 2017 Wisconsin Mathematics Council Annual Conference; Speaker: David Berger; Description: Help your students understand the unit circle, reference angles and radians. Explore key trigonometric concepts in a lesson created through a lesson study process by teachers from New York, and Wisconsin. Use manipulatives to experience multiple representations and help students to understand the connections between right triangles, the unit circle and radian measurements.
Teacher Leadership Conference: Date: June 3, 2017; Location: UFT Building - Manhattan, New York; Speaker: Ben Allen; Description: At this conference Ben presented with a small team of his colleagues, showcasing the work that their teacher leader team did at their school this year to help their staff develop stronger instruction. This presentation highlighted all of the work that Ben's school has done through the teacher leadership program. Over the past four years we have established common planning time, professional development cycles, and intervisitation programs within the school community that have all been effective at improving instruction within the school. Many of the lesson activities and strategies that he shared with his colleagues he had originally learned from the Park City Math Institute.

2017 Rosenthal Prize First Place Winner: Date: February 7, 2018; Location: New York City, NY; Participant: Matthew Engel; Description: Matt Engel received a $25,000 award with the 2017 Rosenthal Prize at the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York City on February 7, 2018 for his lesson plan, Bringing Similarity into Light: Experiencing Similarity and Dilations Using Shadows.
National Board Certification: Date: December, 2018; Location: Nevada; Participant: Ayesha Saletore Yacubic; Description: Ayesha completed and passed her Components 1, 2, and 4 for her National Boards Certification. She will be submitting her Component 3 this year and will find out if she passed December 2019. If she passes this last one, she will be certified!
