Teachers in Their Classrooms

The Teacher Leadership Program regards the teacher as the primary agent for promoting and implementing classroom reform. The program is designed to enable teachers to make informed decisions and to implement change with confidence.

The Teacher Leadership Program is a paradigm for the lifelong professional development of school teachers, just as PCMI's graduate summer school/research component is a paradigm for the lifelong professional development of a research mathematician. As such, the Teacher Leadership Program includes the following three components:

  • continued rigorous mathematical learning
  • analysis of classroom practice
  • production and dissemination of materials for other teachers and their students

The Teacher Leadership Program is organized around three strands related to these goals and is enriched by additional activities tailored to specific participant needs and by programs involving other components of the PCMI community.
